Hey Webster’s!

How did “brunch” slip past the system? It’s a fake word. You can’t just slam to words together and throw it in the dictionary. If that’s now the case, I nominate “stucision.” It’s my combination of “stupid” and “decision,” as in, “making brunch a real word was a stucision.”
I challenge! How do you think the English language was formed in the first place? According to your logic, we shouldn’t be using the word “doghouse!”
Because English is not a dead language, we are able to make new words all the time. To me, any word that is written or spoken, and understood by more than one person — meaning is able to be used for communication, is a “real” word. Just because Websters has not added it to its pages, does not make a word invalid.
Many purists disagree, but I even consider leet and txt speak to be valid languages with “real” words. I do not believe it should be used to communicate in business or scholarly realms, but between other leet speakers and txters, it is a new completely viable language.
